57. Ernie Sings And
Glen Picks
Capitol # ST-11389 // Released May 5, 1975
// Note: A classic LP that stills sells well today, this album was the concept
of producer Steve Stone, who set out to recapture the intimacy, and solid, uncluttered sound that Ernie
achieved in 1963 with his Country Hits ~ Feelin' Blue LP. With a group of strong, traditional
country standards, and a few from the newer writers on Music Row, Stone's brilliance in conceiving
this project was only heightened by recruiting Ernie's friend, and one of music's most versatile
artists, Glen Campbell, to handle the acoustic guitar work and harmonies alongside Ernie. //

Following
the release of 'For The 83rd Time' (above) Ernie's 27 year-long career as an
exclusive artist for Capitol
Records came to a close, leaving a recorded legacy of 83 singles
and 48 LP's -- an
astonishing milestone by any standard, for any artist. In
the years that followed, Capitol has released scores of compilations, and
licensed out
Ernie's best loved music from over the years, creating scores of
independent-label compilations
as well. Listing them all would create a second LP discography, virtually as
long as
this one itself. There have, however, been several compilation sets of
note, many of which are
still available, and the most recent of which have been conceived and produced
in coordination with Tennessee Ernie Ford Enterprises, that have given new life to the
incredible legacy of music
given the world by this simple man from Tennessee, and are finding new fans all
over the world once again.
