23.  The Story Of Christmas (With The Roger Wagner Chorale and Orchestra)

Capitol # 1964 // Released September 30, 1963 // Note:  Ernie's second Christmas album, this classic was originally conceived as part of a larger project; one Ernie regarded as the pinnacle of his career; his 1963 NBC Special, "The Story of Christmas". However, it was late summer  of 1963 before a sponsor was finally found for the undertaking. As a result, Ernie and Capitol made the decision to record the LP independently of the TV special, and release it whether or not the special was ever produced. Capitol # ST-2097 // Released June 1, 1964 // Note: One of Ernie's favorite LP's (and perhaps the best of his career) this entire record of country standards was recorded with back-up provided by just two musicians; guitarist Billy Strange (one of the members of Cliffie Stone's Hometown Jamboree band) and bassist  John Mosher. Capitol # ST-2618 // Released October 10, 1966 // Note: During the recording of 'Aloha From Tennessee Ernie Ford' (the LP following this) Capitol notified Ernie they needed several new tracks for pick-up LP they were putting together. The result? The title track for this 1966 effort. All but two others in this LP were previously recorded.
