23. The
Story Of Christmas (With The Roger Wagner Chorale and Orchestra)
Capitol # 1964
// Released September 30, 1963
// Note: Ernie's second Christmas album, this classic was originally
conceived as part of a larger project; one Ernie regarded as the pinnacle of his career; his 1963
NBC Special, "The Story of Christmas". However, it was late summer
of 1963 before a sponsor was finally found for the undertaking. As a result, Ernie and Capitol
made the decision to record the LP independently of the TV special, and release
it whether or not the special was ever produced. Featuring narratives written
especially for the project by renowned author Charles Tazewell ("The Littlest
Angel") this record may be the single greatest Christmas LP ever recorded by any artist. //
